Capital One: Everyone Knows Two is Better Than One

The Vikings are still going strong. They seem to be a play on an old 90′s movie called Encino Man. The Cavemen (Geico) and Vikings are (were?) able to coexist because they claimed opposite positions. The Cavemen are sophisticated and want to stand out. They’re not your average Cavemen and take offense to the comparison. The Vikings on the other hand are primitive and shameless about “fitting in.” The charm of the Capital One commercials is the announcer format with the Nordic accent and the fact that the Vikings are so destructive (even if by accident). I think the accent is a major asset. There are campaigns out there that aim to strip accents completely and I think it’s a mistake. The spots come off as sounding like the evening news anchored by an “Everyman.”
